Location and Opening Hours

The Icelandic Institute of Natural History was merged with The National Land Survey of Iceland and The Mývatn Research Station on July 1st 2024 according to Icelandic law no. 54/2024 under the name Icelandic Institute of Nature Research.

A new organisational chart is on www.natt.is and www.natturufraedistofnun.is, but until a new website is available please refer to the websites of The Icelandic Institute of Natural History, The National Land Survey of Iceland and The Mývatn Research Station.


The IINH has offices at two locations: our head office in Garðabær and our division in Akureyri. The IINH also maintains a drill core collection at Breiðdalsvík in East Iceland in cooperation with the Breiðdalssetur Research and Heritage Centre.

The reception in Garðabær is open 10–15 Monday through Friday and telephone services in Akureyri and Garðabær are open from 9–16. E-mail ni@ni.is.
