Rocky coast and shallow marine waters

Around 25 of 121 important bird areas in Iceland consist mainly of rocky coast, sometimes including nearby coastal lakes and shallow marine waters. These locations are important as staging areas for migratory birds and wintering sites for species that overwinter in Iceland. Some areas are also moulting sites for ducks, geese, and swans (Anatidae).
